Art & Crafts (Half Day)

Every children is the artist! The children are provided with the opportunity to express themselves through several artistic mediums including watercolors, clay and craft materials. The individual creative efforts of each child are encouraged in a non-judgmental free expression environment.

Art Courses are taught by professional teachers from NSCAD.

Topic 1: Watercolor Painting

Students will learn:

• Understanding Watercolor Materials: Learn about different types of watercolor paints, brushes, paper, and other materials used in watercolor painting.

• Techniques: Master fundamental watercolor techniques such as wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, dry brushing, lifting, and glazing.

• Color Mixing: Explore color theory and learn how to mix watercolor paints to achieve a wide range of hues, tones, and shades.

• Composition: Understand the principles of composition in landscape painting, including balance, focal point, and perspective.

• Creating Depth: Learn how to create depth and distance in landscape paintings using techniques such as aerial perspective, layering, and overlapping.

• Capturing Light and Shadow: Study how light and shadow affect landscapes and learn how to accurately.

Topic 2: Gouache Mixed Media Painting

Students will learn:

• Introduction to Gouache: Learn about gouache paint, its characteristics, and its differences from other painting mediums such as watercolor and acrylic.

• Texture and Detail: Experiment with various tools and techniques to add texture and detail to gouache paintings, such as dry brush, stippling, and graffito.

• Exploring Mixed Media: Combine gouache with other mixed media materials such as collage elements, found objects, ink, and pastels to create mixed media artworks with depth and dimension.

• Composition and Design: Understand the principles of composition and design in painting, including balance, focal point, perspective, and rhythm.
